Announcement of the twelfth meeting of the “Committee on International Scientific Cooperation” on Monday, 20 July 2020 in the form of a webinar

The twelfth meeting of the “committee on International Scientific Cooperation” will be held as a webinar on Monday, 20 July 2020 from 10:00 to 12:00 AM.

Therefore, it is appropriate for the international representative of the faculties, research institutes and centers to attend the meeting at the appointed time through the access system (http://lmsplus.sbu.ac.ir)

It is essential to mention that the twelfth meeting of the International Scientific Cooperation committee is the second consecutive meeting of the working group that is held virtually.

The eleventh session of the said meeting was held virtually on 15 May 2020, with the maximum presence of international representatives.

Speech of the President of Shahid Beheshti University in the “Fifth Meeting of the Presidents of the Top Universities of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation”

The fifth meeting of the heads of the top universities of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation was held on Tuesday, 7 July 2020, with the presence of the ministers of science, research and technology, ambassadors and heads of the top universities of the two countries hosted by Russia and Dr. Nasiri Gheidari, president of the Shahid Beheshti University made a speech.

He did gratitude from Professor Sadovichi, President of Moscow State University, and Dr. Nili Ahmadabadi, President of the University of Tehran, as the secretaries of the meeting to hold this meeting, and expressed the outlines of educational, research and technology cooperation between Shahid Beheshti University and Russia.

Dr. Nasiri Gheidari, first referring to the responsibility of Shahid Beheshti University as the “leading house for International Scientific Cooperation with Russia”, announced the membership of 51 Iranian universities and research institutes in this committee, noted the hold of five meetings of this committee (the last meeting on 16 Jun 2020 was held virtually) so far.

In addition, he mentioned the formation of the “International Policy Council” on Russia at Shahid Beheshti University, with the participation of current, previous and former advisers of Islamic Republic of Iran in Russia, Deputy of the Center for International Scientific Cooperation of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, General Director of Scholarships and Student Dispatch, Representative of the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology, Director of the Aerospace Research Institute, Director of the National Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences, President of the Islamic Azad University and other veteran colleagues, he said that good prospects are being drawn in this think tank for future cooperation with Russian educational and research centers.

Dr. Nasiri Gheidari, enumerating the number of held  technical meetings in the field of scientific relations with Russia in the past 5 months, said that this issue shows the interest of Shahid Beheshti University in developing relations with Russian universities and research institutes.

He also referred to the 11 Memorandum of Understanding of cooperation since 2015, held 9 joint scientific meetings, 15 visits of academic delegations to educational and research centers of the two countries, 7 joint research projects, the presence of 14 faculty members of Shahid Beheshti University in prestigious conferences. He also mentioned the participation of 15 Russian professors in conferences held at Shahid Beheshti University, and some other statistics related to bilateral cooperation.

The President of Shahid Beheshti University then counted the number of faculty members graduating from Russia (13 faculty members) and stated that in general, about one third of the faculty members of Shahid Beheshti University have graduated from abroad, which is a very high capacity to promote international scientific cooperation.

He considered the establishment of “Researchers Search System” of Shahid Beheshti University as one of the important and basic measures taken by the director of international scientific cooperation of this university and the development of the system with the approval of the Acting Minister for International Scientific Cooperation, at the national level to facilitate identification and communication with Iranian researchers in the near future.

He also added that another activity carried out by this directorate was the launch of a scientific cooperation website with Russia, in order to collect and integrate information related to the educational and research activities of the universities and research institutes of the two countries with the aim of developing a strategic cooperation plan.

At the end of his speech, Dr. Nasiri referred to the efforts of Shahid Beheshti University as the leading house for international scientific cooperation with Russia, in guiding and organizing the country’s students to use the Russian Government Scholarship 2020-2021, and also he explained the strategies and approaches to promote international scientific cooperation with Russia.

The International Virtual Conference “Ethics, Theology and Inclusive Disasters” was extended

Due to the requests of professors and researchers, and also with the aim of providing appropriate opportunity to use the international capacity of the International Conference entitled “Ethics, Theology and Inclusive Disasters”, this conference was extended.

Announcement of a scientific virtual webinar on “Climate Change and Human Rights: The North-South Gap” with a lecture by Professor Atapato, professor at the University of Wisconsin, USA – Wednesday, 15 July 2020

In order to explore the various dimensions of the links between human rights and environmental rights in the complex contemporary world, as well as expansion of international scientific activities, the UNESCO Chair in Human Rights, Peace and Democracy at Shahid Beheshti University have been invited from Professor Sumudu Anopama Atapattu to speak at an international webinar on human rights and the environment.

It should be noted that she is Professor of International Environmental Law at the University of Wisconsin (USA), a graduate of the University of Cambridge, Senior Human Rights Advisor at the International Law Center for Sustainable Development in Montreal, Canada, and a member of the Advisory Board of the International Journal of Sustainable Law and Policy McGill University.

Holding the 81st meeting of “Beheshti Corona Webinar” in the field of political economy issues, with the theme “Cultural relations between Iran and Turkey in the Corona era”

It is hereby informed that the Vice president for Research and Technology of Shahid Beheshti University intends to hold the 81st meeting of “Beheshti Corona Webinar” in the field of political economy (research cluster 5) and with the topic “Cultural relations between Iran and Turkey in the Corona era”.

Presentation of Director of International Scientific Cooperation of Shahid Beheshti University in the National Research Institute for Science Policy virtual meeting

The first meeting of the series of virtual sessions planned by the National Research Institute for Science Policy in interaction with the Center for International Scientific Cooperation of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology entitled “Presenting a report on the current situation, relying on previous findings, with a focus on examining the challenges in the field of policy and providing political strategies”, was held on Monday, 29 June 2020.In this meeting, which was attended by Dr. Vahid Ahmadi (Advisor to the Minister and Head of the Research Center for Scientific Policy), Dr. Ataullah Koohian (Deputy Minister of Scientific Cooperation and Specialized Organizations of the Center for International Scientific Cooperation of the Ministry of Science Research and Technology)and representatives of national authorities, In order to achieve the appropriate model of international scientific interactions, Dr. Karimian, Director of International Scientific Cooperation of Shahid Beheshti University (as the Leading House for scientific cooperation with Russia and Kazakhstan universities), presented a report on the activities carried out by leading house for Scientific Cooperation with Russia and Kazakhstan, the university presented challenges and suggestions in this area. Moreover, in addition to Shahid Beheshti University, the representatives of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad presented a report as the National Authority for Scientific Cooperation with India and Yazd as the National Authority for Scientific Cooperation with Hungary.

The Fifth online meeting of the National Working Group of International Scientific Cooperation with Russia was held

The fifth meeting of the National committee of Coordination and Pursuit of International Scientific Cooperation with Russia, due to coronavirus crisis was virtually held by Shahid Beheshti University (Leading House for coordination of Academic Cooperation with the Russian Federation universities) on Tuesday, 16 June 2020, with the presence of Dr. Nasiri Gheydari the president of Shahid Behehsti University, Dr Karimiyan director of International Scientific cooperation directorate, Dr. Najafi, Scientific Advisor of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Russia, White Russia and Ukraine, Dr. Gholami, former scientific advisor of Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran in Moscow and other international scientific representative members of this group.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Nasiri Gheidari, while announcing the launch of the “Russian Academic Collaboration Thinking Room” at Shahid Beheshti University today, stressed the need to expand the importance of international scientific cooperation with Russia.

In addition, Dr. Najafi, announced the opportunities for cooperation with Russia, and also spoke about the two main axes of the Russian State Scholarship and teaching the Russian language, as well as the arrangements made to organize this matter.

Dr. Gholami then enumerated the available opportunities for the committee on international scientific cooperation with Russia in the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology of Iran’s president office, emphasizing the necessity to extend the academic cooperation between universities and scientific centers in the country to make the maximum benefit of these capacities.

Finally, the meeting ended with questions session by members of the committee and a conclusion speech by Dr. Karimian.

The fifth online meeting of the National Working Group on Coordination and Pursuit of International Scientific Cooperation with Russia, will be held by Shahid Beheshti University (leading house for coordination of Academic Cooperation with the Russian Federation universities) on Tuesday, 16 June 2020, with the presence of Dr. Nasiri Gheydari the president of Shahid Behehsti University, Dr Karimiyan director of International Scientific cooperation directorate, Dr. Najafi, Scientific Advisor of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Russia, White Russia and Ukraine, Dr. Gholami, former scientific advisor of Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran in Moscow, Dr. Abtahi, Director of the National Research Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences and former Scientific Advisor at the Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran in Russia and other international scientific representative members of this group.

Holding a virtual workshop on Urban Planning Theories with the presence of professor from the University of Illinois

The Department of Urban and Regional Planning and Design of the faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning of Shahid Beheshti University has made efforts to hold a specialized virtual workshop entitled “Urban Planning Theories” with the participation of guest professor from the University of Illinois and also attendance of professors and Graduate students of other universities across the country were held on the Saturday afternoon, 30 May 2020.

Lecturers Prof. Sarrafi and Dr. Nedayi Tusi, along with the guest professor, Prof. Mir Aftab (Faculty member of Urban Planning Department, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) to discuss the crisis of the capitalist system in the current world, social divide and marginalization of urban poor And its manifestation were mainly addressed in informal settlements in Latin America, Asia and Africa. Then, with the introduction of “Insurgent Planning” theory, they devised strategies to realize low-income citizenship rights and justice-oriented urban planning.

In the following, after the stated introduction by the lecturers, given a presentation by Dr. Mir Aftab for one hour and then question session more than an hour and half were given about the aforementioned issues. In this class, in addition to master’s degree students, PhD students of the relevant department of Shahid Beheshti University, University of Tehran, University of Science and Technology, University of Arts and professors of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and Design of Shahid Beheshti University, Kurdistan University and a group of Urban planning specialists was presented.

Virtual Holding of the 10th Meeting of the Vice-presidents and International Directors of the Country’s Universities and Higher Education Centers

The tenth meeting of the Vice-presidents and International Directors of Universities and Higher Education Centers with the aim of developing international cooperation in post-Corona stage, with the presence of Dr. Gholami (Minister of Science, Research and Technology), presidents, deputies and International directors of some universities and higher education centers, The ambassadors of a number of foreign countries and authorities of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology were held on Monday, May 18th.

 

At the beginning of the meeting, which the President and Director of the International Scientific Cooperation Directorate of Shahid Beheshti University (SBU) also participated virtually, Dr. Nasiri Gheidari (the president of SBU), while expressing points on educational, research and international issues, stated that Shahid Beheshti University is able to hold more than 97% of theoretical courses online and offline during the outbreak of Corona virus with 300 online rooms. He also stated that Shahid Beheshti University has adopted the policy of maximum protection of international students due to the existing conditions and also the existence of potentials such as consular services, Persian language center for non-Persian speakers and welfare facilities of the university.

In addition, he indicates that Shahid Beheshti University, as the head of the National Committee in International Scientific Cooperation with Russia and Kazakhstan, stressed the importance of maintaining and expanding scientific relations with Russia.

At the end of the speech in this meeting, in general, the way of cooperation and international scientific interactions in the current and post-Corona conditions (along with the definition of new programs), the method of continuing the presence of international students in the country and how to attract and even increase student attraction in the next academic year were examined.

 

Following this webinar, Dr. Gholami, Minister of Science, Research and Technology, pointed out that one of the main strategies of Ministry of Science, Research and technology is to pay attention to the development of scientific communications, and mentioned everything that has been achieved in international collaboration sector so far, is the result of international universities authorities effort. He added that in the context of the Coronavirus epidemic, those who have come up with a complete plan and strategy could overcome the crisis. Based on the new circumstances, the approaches in the education and pedagogic field have changed direction, and most of the universities have had many successes achievements which are constantly improving.

The Minister of Science, Research and Technology emphasized the importance of other countries’ experiences in the fields of scientific and international cooperation, as well as the use of domestic experience based on information technology and virtual communication, which is appropriate for the current situation. Experiences gained in difficult circumstances are very important, and in the future these capacities and capabilities will be a valuable asset for the country’s universities, but what is important is the strategic and executive plans of the coming years, which must be reviewed.

 

Dr. Gholami also acknowledged the preservation and increase of non-Iranian students studying in the country’s universities: “The Ministry of Science, Research and Technology is ready to support and support the country’s universities and higher education institutions, and the universities must be in the fields. “Research to support professors in maintaining their international connections.”

At the final part of his speech, he said that our country in the field of scientific and international relations currently needs synergy and consensus within the family of higher education, emphasizing the creation of a coherent coordination between other ministries and institutions to take an approach to develop a new experience for the future.
