Holding a series of summer virtual lectures by the Persian Language Training Center (PLTC)

The Persian Language Training Center (PLTC) intends to hold a series of lectures in the summer (Mondays at 11 AM) to promote the general knowledge of those interested in the fields of studies related to Iranian studies and Persian language and literature.

These programs are going to be held using prominent Iranian and non-Iranian professors and researchers in Persian, Arabic, French and German languages and with the aim of attracting diverse audiences and also reminding the importance and position of Shahid Beheshti University in the field of humanities and teaching Persian language.

Rising the ranking of Shahid Beheshti University in the latest Leiden 2020 ranking system

Announcing the above news, Dr. Babak Shokri, Vice president for Research and Technology, said: Shahid Beheshti University in the latest Leiden 2020 ranking system in the authority criterion compared to the previous ranking of this system in 2019, with 25 steps, won the position of 599.

Dr. Shokri added: Shahid Beheshti University was ranked 694th in the criterion of diplomacy and free access, raised 23 steps, and in the criterion of gender diversity, raised 15 steps and ranked 723.

The Vice president for Research and Technology of the University stated: Leiden is one of the valid university evaluation systems that evaluates and ranks the top universities in the world every year based on valid scientometric indicators. In 2020, the world’s universities were ranked by 20 indicators in the form of four general criteria of scientific authority, scientific diplomacy, open access to publications and gender diversity in Leiden. These evaluations used the scientific products of universities in the years 2015 to 2018 from the Web of Science database.

Dr. Shokri said: “the results of the 2020 ranking of the Leiden ranking system shows, 36 universities from Iran were included in the total of 1176 top universities in the world, while in 2019 this number was equal to 26 universities.”

Meeting of the Iraqi cultural advisor with the head of Shahid Abbaspour Technical and Engineering Campus

Dr. Amjad Hamid Muzaffar, Cultural Advisor of Iraq and the accompanying delegation, visited the Shahid Abbaspour Technical and Engineering Campus of Shahid Beheshti University on Wednesday, 15 July 2020, and had a friendly meeting with Dr. Borzoyi, the head of the Campus.
In this meeting, Dr. Rashidi, head of the specialized training center; Mr. Ganji, International Affairs Advisor to the head of the Campus and Dr. Abedi were also attended.
At the beginning of this meeting, Dr. Rashidi presented a comprehensive report on the capabilities of the University Specialized Training Center; Then Dr. Borzoi presented a report on scientific, educational, research and professional capacities and workshop and laboratory facilities, accommodation, culture, sports and services of Shahid Beheshti University, especially Shahid Abbaspour Technical and Engineering Campus and stated: According to the infrastructure of Shahid Abbaspour Campus and also due to our good relationship with the water and electricity industry, energy and environment and the exciting potential, we are fully prepared to cooperate in attracting and admitting international students and holding technical courses and joint projects between Iraqi universities and the water and electricity industry and Shahid Beheshti University.
In this meeting, the two sides discussed about the nature of bilateral relations and the mechanisms of admission and admission of Iraqi students and short-term technical courses at Shahid Beheshti University.
The two sides also continued meetings and talked about the development of scientific cooperation, technology, technical engineering services and the possible path to provide the needs of higher education, and technical skills of universities, higher education centers, research institute and executive organizations in Iraq due to excellent relations between the two neighboring countries. They emphasized the cultural, religious and geographical interests of the two countries.

Holding a consensus meeting on scientific cooperation with Germany in the context of the corona virus pandemic and post-corona conditions

A consensus meeting on “Scientific Cooperation with Germany in the Conditions of the pandemic Corona Virus and Post-Corona Conditions” was virtually held on Tuesday, 14 July 2020, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 AM.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Hooman Liyaghati, Professor of the Environmental Sciences Research Institute and a pundit in the field of international scientific cooperation with Germany, and Dr. Nezamzadeh, Deputy of  Director of International Scientific Cooperation, as representatives of Shahid Beheshti University; Dr. Liyaqhati, while enumerating the capacities of scientific cooperation with Germany at the time of the outbreak of virus Covid 19, emphasized on maintaining and expanding communication in the Past-corona era. He also considered the personal communication of Iranian faculty members with German faculty members as the most successful way in the current situation, considering the special prevailing conditions in the scientific community of that country, and also offered suggestions on facilitating this kind of communication with Germany.

It is essential to mention that this meeting was hosted by Iran’s University of Science and Technology, as the leading house for international scientific cooperation with Germany.

Announcement of the twelfth meeting of the “Committee on International Scientific Cooperation” on Monday, 20 July 2020 in the form of a webinar

The twelfth meeting of the “committee on International Scientific Cooperation” will be held as a webinar on Monday, 20 July 2020 from 10:00 to 12:00 AM.

Therefore, it is appropriate for the international representative of the faculties, research institutes and centers to attend the meeting at the appointed time through the access system (http://lmsplus.sbu.ac.ir)

It is essential to mention that the twelfth meeting of the International Scientific Cooperation committee is the second consecutive meeting of the working group that is held virtually.

The eleventh session of the said meeting was held virtually on 15 May 2020, with the maximum presence of international representatives.

Speech of the President of Shahid Beheshti University in the “Fifth Meeting of the Presidents of the Top Universities of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation”

The fifth meeting of the heads of the top universities of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation was held on Tuesday, 7 July 2020, with the presence of the ministers of science, research and technology, ambassadors and heads of the top universities of the two countries hosted by Russia and Dr. Nasiri Gheidari, president of the Shahid Beheshti University made a speech.

He did gratitude from Professor Sadovichi, President of Moscow State University, and Dr. Nili Ahmadabadi, President of the University of Tehran, as the secretaries of the meeting to hold this meeting, and expressed the outlines of educational, research and technology cooperation between Shahid Beheshti University and Russia.

Dr. Nasiri Gheidari, first referring to the responsibility of Shahid Beheshti University as the “leading house for International Scientific Cooperation with Russia”, announced the membership of 51 Iranian universities and research institutes in this committee, noted the hold of five meetings of this committee (the last meeting on 16 Jun 2020 was held virtually) so far.

In addition, he mentioned the formation of the “International Policy Council” on Russia at Shahid Beheshti University, with the participation of current, previous and former advisers of Islamic Republic of Iran in Russia, Deputy of the Center for International Scientific Cooperation of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, General Director of Scholarships and Student Dispatch, Representative of the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology, Director of the Aerospace Research Institute, Director of the National Institute of Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences, President of the Islamic Azad University and other veteran colleagues, he said that good prospects are being drawn in this think tank for future cooperation with Russian educational and research centers.

Dr. Nasiri Gheidari, enumerating the number of held  technical meetings in the field of scientific relations with Russia in the past 5 months, said that this issue shows the interest of Shahid Beheshti University in developing relations with Russian universities and research institutes.

He also referred to the 11 Memorandum of Understanding of cooperation since 2015, held 9 joint scientific meetings, 15 visits of academic delegations to educational and research centers of the two countries, 7 joint research projects, the presence of 14 faculty members of Shahid Beheshti University in prestigious conferences. He also mentioned the participation of 15 Russian professors in conferences held at Shahid Beheshti University, and some other statistics related to bilateral cooperation.

The President of Shahid Beheshti University then counted the number of faculty members graduating from Russia (13 faculty members) and stated that in general, about one third of the faculty members of Shahid Beheshti University have graduated from abroad, which is a very high capacity to promote international scientific cooperation.

He considered the establishment of “Researchers Search System” of Shahid Beheshti University as one of the important and basic measures taken by the director of international scientific cooperation of this university and the development of the system with the approval of the Acting Minister for International Scientific Cooperation, at the national level to facilitate identification and communication with Iranian researchers in the near future.

He also added that another activity carried out by this directorate was the launch of a scientific cooperation website with Russia, in order to collect and integrate information related to the educational and research activities of the universities and research institutes of the two countries with the aim of developing a strategic cooperation plan.

At the end of his speech, Dr. Nasiri referred to the efforts of Shahid Beheshti University as the leading house for international scientific cooperation with Russia, in guiding and organizing the country’s students to use the Russian Government Scholarship 2020-2021, and also he explained the strategies and approaches to promote international scientific cooperation with Russia.

Upgrading the position of Shahid Beheshti University in the Asian Times rankings in 2020

In a recent ranking of Asian universities in 2020, Shahid Beheshti University has been upgraded from 250-201 to 180.

It is essential to mention that the Times ranking database is one of the most reputable international ranking systems, which in 2013, for the first time, ranked Asian universities alongside its international rankings. In the 2020 ranking of Asian universities in the Islamic Republic of Iran, there were 40 universities, of which 5 universities are among the top 100 universities in Asia.

Sharif University of Technology, Iran University of Science and Technology, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Iran University of Medical Sciences, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Shahid Beheshti (comprehensive) University, Shahroud University of Technology have been able to perform better than last year and improve their ranking.

The Asian Times rankings for 2020 include 489 universities from 30 countries. In this ranking, Tsinghua University and Peking University from China are ranked first and second among Asian universities, and this is the first time that two universities from China are seen at the top of the ranking table. The National University of Singapore and the University of Hong Kong are ranked second and third, respectively.

As in previous years, Japan has the highest number of universities in this ranking with 110 universities (last year it was 103) and their best university is the University of Tokyo with 7th place.

Shahid Beheshti University president: Expanding the level of international scientific cooperation is an important mission of the university

The President of Shahid Beheshti University Dr. Sadollah Nasiri Gheidari, met Dr. Mohammad Vali Roozbehan, the managing director of Anzali Free Zone Organization, on Saturday, 4 July 2020.

According to the university’s public relations, in this meeting, which was attended by some members of the board of directors of Shahid Beheshti University and Dr. Roozbehan’s accompanying delegation, the parties agreed on how to implement the signed agreement in last year August and the formation of a specialized working group.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Nasiri, President of Shahid Beheshti University, while welcoming, said: “International cooperation and activities are very important for the Islamic Republic in the current era. The Supreme Leader entered into this issue about three years ago and the Ministry of Science One of the members of the working group for formulating the strategy of international activities.

The President of the University added: The Ministry of Science has a special emphasis on international scientific activities in universities and this issue has been pursued more seriously since 2013 and various ministries in this government have always placed special emphasis on international missions and activities in universities in their proposed programs to the parliament.

Shahid Beheshti University has defined the expansion of the level of international cooperation as an important mission, and in this regard, two plans respectively two-year and five-year programs have been developed for the purpose of managing the international scientific cooperation of the university. On the other hand, Shahid Beheshti University is the leading house for international cooperation with Russia and Belarus, and the Anzali Free Zone is one of the most important free zones in the country, which can be an important gateway for communication with Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, Southwest Asia and North and East Asia (China) is the highest level of scientific and political diplomacy cooperation of our country with the countries of these regions.

The President of the University, referring to the holding of the fifth meeting of directors and international vice presidents of all universities in recent weeks at Shahid Beheshti University, continued: Shahid Beheshti University has been the basis for constructive interactions in Russia and in this regard “Raazi-Lumonosov” has been opened, which is a link between the Islamic Republic and Russia. In fact, Shahid Beheshti University is the strongest link in the Islamic Republic’s scientific relations with Russia, and the port of Anzali is important to us from this perspective.

Afterwards, Dr. Mohammad Vali Roozbehan, the managing director of Anzali Free Zone Organization, while expressing satisfaction from holding the meeting, said: “We currently have seven free trade zones in the country, three in the northern part of the country and four located in the south part of the country. Anzali Free Zone has special conditions and features, the most important of which is the climate of Anzali port and being located on the safe and calm shore of the Caspian Sea, which is the bridge between the Islamic Republic and two important and strategic countries, both of which are members of the Security Council. In this regard, we are activating two corridors north to south and east to west in the Caspian Sea.

Dr. Roozbehan also mentioned the four seasons of Anzali region as another feature of this region and considered it as an effective factor in creating tourism capacities in the region and added: Another characteristic of Anzali free zone is the short distance to the capital and political and demographic center of Iran; The location of the area in the northwestern quarter and access to important transportation roads are other features of this area. At the end of his speech, Dr. Roozbehan emphasized the importance of establishing an international university in Anzali Free Zone based on requirements and solving regional and national problems and expressed hope that the existing capabilities of Shahid Beheshti University as a reference university and one It used the well-known universities of the country in the implementation of the signed agreement.

It should be mention that at the end of the meeting, the establishment of an executive committee in order to implement the signed memorandum of understanding with the presence of vice presidents and consultants of the two sides with the aim of determining the mechanisms to implement the memorandum and the establishment of required subjects for domestic and foreign labor market and also establish a third generation university was approved in the Anzali Free Zone as a national pilot.

In order to explore the various dimensions of the links between human rights and environmental rights in the complex contemporary world, as well as expansion of international scientific activities, the UNESCO Chair in Human Rights, Peace and Democracy at Shahid Beheshti University have been invited from Professor Sumudu Anopama Atapattu to speak at an international webinar on human rights and the environment.

It should be noted that she is Professor of International Environmental Law at the University of Wisconsin (USA), a graduate of the University of Cambridge, Senior Human Rights Advisor at the International Law Center for Sustainable Development in Montreal, Canada, and a member of the Advisory Board of the International Journal of Sustainable Law and Policy McGill University.
